AH35  South Coast & Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon 1 Apr 2012 -
31 Oct 2012

Highlights:
  • Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon
  • Boat tour on the lagoon
  • Seljalandsfoss waterfall
  • Skógafoss waterfall

Tour Description:

This tour takes us along the beautiful south shore of Iceland to the extraordinary glacial lagoon, Jökulsárlón.

We will pass some charming villages as well as Skaftafell National Park and visit Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Skógafoss waterfall. Just before we reach the lagoon we pass Iceland’s biggest volcano, Öræfajökull glacier which has the highest peak of the island, Hvannadalshnjúkur (2110 m).

Panoramas IcelandAfter we arrive at the lagoon we have some time to view this stunning area before we take a boat tour on the lagoon. Please note that the boat tours will not be available on April departures due to the amount of ice on the lagoon. These are expected to start in early May.
The boats that carry us are no ordinary boats as they are capable of driving short distances on land as well as sailing on the water.

Jökulsárlón started to form in the early nineteen twenties and is getting bigger every year. You will see many amazing blocks of ice that have broken off Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajökull, as they sail slowly towards the ocean which is only a kilometer away.

After a refreshing boat tour on the glacial lagoon, we head back to Reykjavík.

It was good, Good tour for all age groups. The Lagoon had a real wow factors with smiles on faces. The organisation was spot on and waterfalls were pretty special.

A long day but well worth it! The lagoon was absolutely amazing. We were there on a day when it was cloudy, so the icebergs in the lagoon held onto their deep blue color. The trip also made several stops to view waterfalls along the way. The guide that we had was really great. She kept an eye out for Northern Lights along the way back to Reykjavik and let us stop for a few minutes to have a look when she spotted them.

An amazing day! Jokulsarlon was the aim of the day but you get to see much more en route making the whole experience unforgettable. I fully recommend this trip to anyone.
