AH39  Cruise at Breiðafjörður Bay 1 Jun 2011 -
31 Aug 2011

Highlights:
  • Gerðuberg, a columnar basalt cliff
  • Stykkishólmur town
  • Cruise at Breiðafjörður Bay

Tour Description:

Our first stops are at Gerðuberg, a columnar basalt cliff in Hnappadalur valley, and Ölkelda, a natural spring of clean drinking water. From there we continue to Stykkishólmur, a thriving little town, where you have the opportunity to look around and have lunch before boarding the boat for an exciting tour of the bay. Please be ready to board the boat at 14:15, since the 2 hr and 15 min cruise begins at 14:30.

Breiðafjördur is renowned for its stunning beauty, with the perfect frame of mountains, high and low, highlighting the scenery. The most famous of these mountains is the majestic and mystical Snæfellsjökull glacier, towering at the west end of the peninsula.

A rich variety of bird life, including puffins, nests in the cliffs and this is also the only area where the white tailed eagle nests in Iceland. During the cruise the boat´s net is hauled and you can taste fresh shellfish and sea urchin directly from the sea. Please remember to bring warm clothing.

We reserve the right to cancel the tour if the weather circumstances are unfavorable.

We offer two tours to Snæfellsnes Peninsula, which share the same bus transfer to and from Snæfellsnes. The tours split up after the visit to Gerðuberg and Ölkelda in the morning and are joined again in Stykkisholmur for the return trip to Reykjavík.

Grate tour, no stress and good long stops. Although we dont see the Ölkelda, a natural spring of clean drinking water. like the say in the description.   Iceland Excursions:   Thank you for your review and comments. Unfortunately the Ölkelda natural spring has been a bit of a disappointment lately due to the state of the surrounding area and lack of water coming from the spring. Many guides have skipped this stop in recent week for the above reason.

My partner and I took this tour, as an introduction to Iceland & it was perfect! We loved seeing the puffins up close and the amazing scenery. And we loved the commentary from our amazing tour guide Didi! She taught us: to speak some Icelandic, Icelandic history, Icelandic customs, Icelandic geography, how to identify local plants & generally made the trip fabulous! She definitely deserves a raise btw (hope someone is reading this). My only issue was that it could have been slightly improved if Didi also did the commentary during the cruise! But otherwise, it was a fab day out - enjoy!
