AH35  South Coast & Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon 1 Apr 2012 -
31 Oct 2012

Highlights:
  • Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon
  • Boat tour on the lagoon
  • Seljalandsfoss waterfall
  • Skógafoss waterfall

Tour Description:

This tour takes us along the beautiful south shore of Iceland to the extraordinary glacial lagoon, Jökulsárlón.

We will pass some charming villages as well as Skaftafell National Park and visit Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Skógafoss waterfall. Just before we reach the lagoon we pass Iceland’s biggest volcano, Öræfajökull glacier which has the highest peak of the island, Hvannadalshnjúkur (2110 m).

Panoramas IcelandAfter we arrive at the lagoon we take a boat tour on the lagoon. Please note that the boat tours will not be available on April departures due to the amount of ice on the lagoon. These are expected to start in early May.
The boats that carry us are no ordinary boats as they are capable of driving short distances on land as well as sailing on the water.

Jökulsárlón started to form in the early nineteen twenties and is getting bigger every year. You will see many amazing blocks of ice that have broken off Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajökull, as they sail slowly towards the ocean which is only a kilometer away.

After a refreshing boat tour on the glacial lagoon, we head back to Reykjavík.

I thoroughly really enjoyed the tour, it´s a long one but with the tour guide´s interesting stories, time flew by, if I could add one more thing, that would be stopping by the rocks at Vik, nonetheless the trip is a MUST --- Iceland Excursions: --- Thank you for your comments and review. So glad you enjoyed the tour. The tour is actually our longest day excursion of 14 hour duration, unfortunately the area of the rocks of Reynisdrangar  cannot be visited during this trip. Hopefully on your next visit to Iceland you will be able to make the journey to the area that has so much to see and enjoy.

My favorite tour definitely! We've seen so many beautiful landscapes and heard a lot of interesting stories from our guide Mathias and I was really enjoying that 14 hours trip. I have just one suggestion - you can put some Icelandic music between guide's speeches to fulfill tourists impressions about incredible nature we've seen from the bus. Thanx to Iceland Excursions, we didn't have any problems with our staying in Iceland. Radomir from Serbia
